A Fourth of July Prayer

By Karen Isbell

One of my best kept secrets is my inner nerd. I often sneak the remote to get a glimpse of the History Channel while no one is looking. One of my favorite experiences was doing the walking history tour with my brother in Boston. I love a good patriotic celebration, especially one that includes ribs, strawberry shortcake and fireworks, but I tend to celebrate by reflecting.

Today, as I remembered those who pioneered the way for us to experience such blessed freedom, I was humbled and led to prayer. Prayer for our Nation. Prayer for our Leaders.

I thank you that I am able to pray, read Your Word daily and gather with Believers without fear. Thank you for those who had the vision and perseverance to create a place of freedom. Thank you for the sacrifice of many to obtain our freedom and maintain our freedom.

At times it is hard to pray for our leaders, but I come before you and lift up our Nations Leaders today. I ask and pray that you would give them all wisdom and understanding as they lead our Nation. Help us to honor and respect those who have been appointed to leadership. Give us wisdom during this election year.

I thank you that our Hope is in You not in our earthly freedom or government. May we be a grateful people and use our freedom for the advance of the Gospel.

In Jesus Name.

1 Timothy 2:1-3 ” I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior”
