“Ruthless Trust”

By Karen Isbell

On the way to church this morning Bryan and I were listening to Phil Wickham sing “It is well with my soul”. Anytime I sing or hear this song, I am humbled as I picture a man choking out the words “it is well with my soul” as he floats over the waters where his wife and children lost their lives. A man, who despite great loss, trusted in the unfailing love of God. I love the way that Brennan Manning describes this kind of trust.

“The splendor of a human heart which trusts that it is loved gives God more pleasure than Westminster Cathedral, the Sistine Chapel, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Van Gogh’s Sunflowers, the sight of ten thousand butterflies in flight, or the scent of a million orchids in bloom. Trust is our gift back to God. Unwavering trust is a rare and a precious thing.” Brennan Manning, Ruthless Trust

What a sweet fragrance this kind of trust is to the Father. Trust that His heart towards me is always good. Trust that His glory is always best whether my sun is standing still or setting.

I pray my life will be an offering of ruthless trust and audacious faith.

“The glory of God often shines the brightest when the sun goes down…and we keep our eyes on Jesus anyway.” Steven Furtick

It is Well with my soul
