The Power of Speaking Life

By Karen Isbell

“The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.” Proverbs 18:21

Our words have the power to give life or take it away. All to often though, my words take life, especially from my children. It is hard to see the potential in them when their human nature is stepping on my last nerve. I’m so thankful that early on in our parenting we were exposed to the idea of “speaking life” over our children. I have needed the reminder often ;).

The idea is simply taking words or characteristics that we see in our children or desire to see and pray and speak these over their lives. Early on with our oldest E, the word “sweet” was used to describe her often. She has an extremely sweet spirit and people constantly describe her that way. She also has an extremely strong-willed, adventurous, curious…drive me crazy spirit 😉 I’m thankful that in those moments of frustration I can look at her and see that sweet spirit, because we have spoken that truth over her and into our hearts.

With her 3rd birth day approaching we decided to sit down and begin to write out the characteristics we see in her, but also ones that we want to see in her. I wanted these words to be visible for us, to remind us of the truth of who she is and who she is becoming.

I have created several “Speak Life” templates that you can customize with the words or characteristics you want for your children. I pray that these will encourage you to speak life over them daily!

Click here to see the templates and order your “Speak Life” Custom Printable for your children! This week they are $7 pre-sale. There are discounts for multiples so be sure to check out the special pricing for our Grand Opening Pre-Sale!
